size=&#8221;sm&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;36px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1581669989501{margin-top: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 1px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 4px !important;border-bottom-color: #0056a6 !important;border-bottom-style: solid !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">THE IGCC PROCESS<\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1581670418007{padding-bottom: 20px !important;}&#8221;]The IGCC plant is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarlux.saras.it\/en\/energy-efficiency\/\">a highly integrated and efficient process<\/a> which, in addition to generating electricity, produces hydrogen and steam for refining plants, in cogeneration mode.<\/p>\n<p>The first step takes place in the gasification section, where the semi-finished product coming from the refinery\u2019s Visbreaker plant (tar or feedstock) is transformed, using oxygen, into synthesis gas (syngas).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarlux.saras.it\/en\/air\/\">The syngas is cleaned of the sulphur<\/a> and metals it contains in the scrubber, thus becoming a clean gas, similar to methane, which is then burned in the gas turbine that produces electricity and hot gas.<\/p>\n<p>The hot gas, together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarlux.saras.it\/en\/water\/\">the water from the seawater desalinator<\/a>, produces the steam that powers the steam turbine, which in turn produces electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The metals that are removed from the syngas during the gasification process are compacted and recovered as a coal-like substance, called \u2018filter cake\u2019,\u00a0which contains high percentages of precious metals such as vanadium and nickel. This innovative process ensures that the IGCC\u00a0plant is fired by a clean gas, with an environmental performance similar to methane gas.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, the project was financed by a combination of bank financing and shareholders\u2019 capital contributions. Construction began in 1997, by an international joint venture composed of Snamprogetti, General Electric and Nuovo Pignone. The plant, which has installed capacity of <strong>over 575 megawatt (MW)<\/strong> and <strong>generates over 4 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh)<\/strong> of electricity per year, <strong>went live in
