Sarroch, 12 June 2016 \u2013 The photo taken above the jetty of Sarlux Northern Plants, at Sarroch, and published on the Web, shows a ship during the mooring manoeuvres that took place on Friday morning, as is clearly shown by the three tugboats near the ship. And as happens in all ports, this manoeuvre churns up sediment from the seabed. No pollution, no spillage of oil or bilge water nor contamination of any kind took place in the waters fronting the Saras Group’s refinery. Any such spill would have immediately triggered action by the authorities; indeed, if contacted about the photo, the authorities would have immediately replied that the image merely reveals silt from the seabed. Sarlux follows a scrupulous sea protection policy, as is recognised by Italian environmental NGO Legambiente and by the control authorities that constantly monitor the area\u2019s coastal waters. Anti-pollution craft are operational round the clock and any event is immediately reported to the authorities and addressed in accordance with the Sea Emergency Plan (e.g. laying of white booms). Another detail to be kept in mind is that the pilot responsible for mooring manoeuvres is a public official reporting directly to the Port Authorities, and thus he could not have kept silent about any anomaly.
