A few days ago an Enel-Saras agreement was signed<\/strong> to design a project to supply green hydrogen to Sarlux<\/strong>. The project involves the use of an approximately 20 MW electrolyser powered exclusively by renewable energy.<\/p>\n

At Saras, we<\/strong> have been carefully tackling the challenges of the energy transition for a long time now<\/strong>, and in recent years we have strengthened our skills base with a series of projects aimed at significantly reducing the refinery\u2019s carbon footprint. Joining forces with Enel Green Power allows us to develop one of these projects with an ideal partner: the production and use of green hydrogen, which is now considered one of the strategies with the greatest potential for decarbonising refining processes and producing next generation fuels. Our Sarroch site is ideally suited, due to its size, location and structural characteristics, to develop and host a green hydrogen production project with clear potential for development and growth.<\/em><\/p>\n

The solution chosen by Saras<\/strong> and Enel Green Power <\/strong>involves the use of a 20 MW electrolyser – powered by renewable energy produced on site – which will be used to produce green hydrogen for the Sarlux refinery\u2019s energy demand.<\/p>\n

Saras<\/strong> has technological skills and know-how in the production and management of hydrogen, and is currently carrying out several studies to explore decarbonisation processes in the production and use of this energy carrier<\/strong>. Hydrogen is an integral part, through a widespread network, of Saras\u2019 refining process, as it is used in hydrocracking and hydrotreatment processes, and is now provided by the IGCC plant and two reforming units at the industrial site.<\/p>\n

This is a very important agreement for both companies. In the context of energy transition, hydrogen can make a valuable contribution to the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industrial companies such as the chemical, aviation, maritime and non-electrified rail transport sectors, provided it is produced in a sustainable way.<\/p>\n
