Sarlux at the University of Cagliari: focus on maintenance, reliability and industrial innovation

On May 15th and 21st, a seminar led by Saras and Sarlux experts was held at the University of Cagliari’s Faculty of Engineering (UNICA) for students in the Master’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering. The topics covered included maintenance and reliability of industrial plants, offering students the opportunity to explore the operational practices and technical expertise present at the Sarroch integrated industrial site.

The first session offered an overview of Saras and Sarlux’s industrial profile: production processes, technological and sustainable innovation, the site’s role in the national energy system, and its impact on the local area.

The session continued with an in-depth look at maintenance strategies applied to various assets, intervention management, and the importance of planning to ensure operational continuity, reliability and safety.

The second session addressed the topic of inspections of industrial assets, a key element in ensuring the long-term integrity of the plants. The main inspection techniques, operational methodologies and innovative technologies currently employed in the sector were illustrated, including robots, drones and advanced monitoring tools. Particular attention was paid to corrosion phenomena, the management of interventions in critical environments, and risk assessment criteria.

The students followed both sessions with great interest, appreciating the practical and applied focus of the content. At the end, they thanked Saras and UNICA for creating this valuable new training opportunity, bringing the academic curriculum closer to the skills required by industry and the challenges of modern production systems.
