Dario Scaffardi, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Saras
A large, complex industrial site, with high-efficiency conversion
plants perfectly integrated with the IGCC power plant,
together with an efficient supply-chain management model
and a personnel development plan that goes hand in hand with technological evolution,
to exploit the possibilities offered by industry 4.0.
These are the strengths highlighted at the Platts
European Refining Summit by Dario Scaffardi.
The Saras Executive Vice President and General Manager
explained to the main global refining players
meeting in Brussels on 21 September how the Sarroch-based Group is getting ready
for the changes in the shipping industry legislation.
Under the provisions of IMO’s “Marpol VI” Convention, sulphur emissions
from marine fuels must be cut sharply from January 2020.
Saras will be ready to produce the new bunker fuel without having
to make any major investments in its plants.
An important role, as explained by Mr Scaffardi, will be played by several digitisation projects
under the #digitalSaras programme, which will optimise use of the company’s own resources:
a massive amount of data and the extensive knowledge and competencies of our people.
“Digitisation is bringing innovations even to a mature sector
such as refining – was Scaffardi’s conclusion –
and is the secret to continuing success for our company through the next decade.”
